Even though all nozzles can individually demonstrate a perfect flow, this doesn't mean that they do present a good distribution (overlap). With the patternator it is possible to determine whether the distribution along the length of the full boom is as expected. If not, it will be necessary to adjust (by changing some nozzles for example) until the right distribution pattern is achieved.
To determine the distribution, the spray boom has to be positioned above the patternator at normal spraying height. Once the liquid is flowing through the gutters, the measuring glasses are tilted underneath the gutters to collect the liquid for a certain time frame. Then, the content of the glasses can be read or compared in order to evaluate the liquid distribution underneath the spray boom.
